HAM AND BEAN SOUP 
Red beans
Pink beans
Black beans
Baby lima beans
Black-eyed peas
Red kidney beans
Great Northern beans
Green split peas
Lentils
Pearl barley - about 1/3 c.

Wash beans thoroughly and cover with water. Soak overnight. Drain. Add 2 quarts water and 1/2 pound ham or ham hocks and bring to a boil. simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Then add a 28 ounce can of tomatoes, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 large chopped onion, little crushed garlic, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer an additional 30 minutes. Shred ham and serve. Serves about 10.
