BAKE - OFF ENTRY: FRENCH SILK
CHOCOLATE PIE
 
SHELL:

2 egg whites
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Beat egg whites until foamy. Add salt and cream of tartar and beat until very stiff. Fold in nuts and vanilla. Turn into greased pie plate. Bake 1 hour at 275 degrees. Cool.

FILLING:

2/3 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 sq. semi-sweet chocolate
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs

Cream butter and sugar well. Melt chocolate and cool. Add chocolate and vanilla. Add 1 egg and beat 5 minutes. Add second egg and beat 3 minutes. Pour into cooled pie shell and refrigerate. Top with whipped cream or Cool Whip.
