MOM'S SPECIAL AU GRATIN POTATOES | |
3 lbs. potatoes 1/4 c. butter 5 tbsp. flour 3 c. milk 1 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 1 c. grated cheese 1/2 sm. onion, diced 1/2 c. cheese, grated Cook potatoes in skins. Cool. Peel. Dice. Make cheese sauce by melting butter in saucepan; add flour, cook until thickened. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Add salt and pepper. Cook on low heat until thick and smooth. Add cheese (1 cup) and allow to melt. Arrange alternate layers of potatoes, cheese sauce and diced onions in greased casserole. Sprinkle top with cheese (1/2 cup). Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Serves 8-10. |
