CHOCOLATE SUNDAE COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp.soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Sift together above ingredients and set aside. Add 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar to 1/2 cup shortening, creaming well. Blend in 1 unbeaten egg; beat well. Stir in half the dry ingredients. Add:

1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
2 tbsp. milk

Then stir in remaining dry ingredients. Mix well. Blend in:

2 squares (2 oz.) melted unsweetened chocolate
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
1/4 c. chopped maraschino cherries

Drop by rounded teaspoon on ungreased baking sheets. Bake in 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Cut 18 marshmallows in half. Place cut side down on hot cookies. Cool on rack. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting. Top each with a nut half.

Makes 36 cookies.
