MILE HIGH BISCUITS | |
3 c. all purpose flour 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar 3/4 tsp. salt 3/4 c. shortening 1 egg, beaten 3/4 c. milk Combine first 5 ingredients, mixing well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Combine egg and milk, add to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead 8 to 10 times. Roll dough to 1 inch thickness, cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 15 biscuits. |
