2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vanilla
5 c. or less flour
2 tsp. baking powder

Dissolve soda in a little boiling water. Mix all ingredients well and drop by teaspoonful on cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees.
