BUTTERMILK COOKIES 
2 c. sugar
3 1/2 to 4 c. flour
2 tbsp. baking soda
1 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk

Beat in: 2 tsp. vanilla

Should not be stiff but easy to handle. Chill. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick or by spoonful. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool and ice. My favorite cookies.
