WALDORF ASTORIA RED CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 heaping tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat well. Sift flour, salt and cocoa 3 times. Add to creamed mixture. Then add milk, vanilla and coloring. Put soda in vinegar and fold in. Bake in either 9 inch pans or oblong pan 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

ICING:

1 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix together flour, salt and milk. Cook until thick. Cool thoroughly. Cream sugar and Crisco well. Add cooled mixture and beat well. Ice cake and garnish with coconut.
