CHARLOTTE THOMAS' DATE NUT BREAD 
7 1/4 oz. pitted dates
3/4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Combine first 4 ingredients and let cool. Combine dry ingredients and add to first mixture. Add remaining ingredients and bake 50 minutes at 350 degrees.
