NO SALT BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
3 lbs. med. (5 in.) cucumbers
3 lbs. of onions
3 c. of cider vinegar (5% acidity)
1 1/2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tbsp. celery seed
1 tsp. turmeric
3 c. brown sugar

Wash, but do not peel cucumber, slice thin. Peel onions and slice thin. In a large kettle or saucepan mix all other ingredients and bring to a boil. Stir in onions and cucumbers. Cook slowly stirring occasionally. Cook about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and pack in hot, sterilized jars. Be sure pickles are covered with syrup. Clean top of jar before sealing. You may process for 15 minutes if you desire.

1/3 of this recipe fits pretty well in a 1 quart Ball Jar if you add a little vinegar and use 4ea 5-inch pickling cucumbers and a medium sized sweet onion.

Thank you so much. I was flummoxed by the fact that there was absolutely no clue as to how much this recipe made. No idea how many cukes to buy if there's no scale in produce department nor how many jars to prepare. You saved the day!

I reduced the recipe by 3 and used one long cucumber and med onio . I used the vegetable peeler to make thin onion slices. It yielded a good full pint plus a few bites. I've made this several times and love it!
