SWEDISH APPLE CAKE (Apple Crisp) 
2 lbs. tart, juicy cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced (=12 sm. to med. apples)
3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. ground almonds
6 tbsp. brown sugar
3 1/2 oz. cinnamon rusks, ground or pulverized to make crumbs (=7 pieces, or 1/3 of a 10 oz. pkg.)

Butter a baking dish or casserole that looks as though it would hold everything. Spread half the apples over the bottom of the baking dish. Cover them with half the rusk crumbs, half the brown sugar, and maybe a quarter of the butter if you want to. Put in the rest of the apples.

Mix the rest of the sugar and apples and dot the rest of the butter over the top. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 50 minutes. You might bake it covered with foil for half that time and brown it for the rest.

Serve lukewarm or at room temperature with vanilla sauce, if you have a good one, or vanilla ice cream.
