At $4.00 dollars a can cherry pie filling is too expensive to waste on this recipe. it was way too sweet and no flavor.

I make this all the time. You don't have to melt the butter. Just put very thin slices of 1 cube of butter evenly over top.

My grandmother passed this same recipe on down through the generations. EVERYONE ALWAYS LOVES IT! And SO easy! Watch for the pie filling and butter on sale, or at the dollar store.

I would recommend 1/2 box cake mix, 1/2 stick butter and 1 can filling in 8x8 pan. Make another one with the rest of the cake mix another night! Also melt butter first and mix with cake mix in bowl then crumble over top of pie filling. I added a 1/2 tsp. of almond extract too.

Try adding a jar of caramel ice cream topping before cooking. Gives the desert a great flavor.
