CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
2/3 c. soft shortening (part butter)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
1 (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 1/4 cups)

Mix thoroughly first 5 ingredients. Sift together and stir in flour, soda and salt. Then stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Bake at 375 degrees (quick moderate oven) 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 4 to 5 dozen 2 inch cookies.
