SCALLOPED ONIONS 
6 onions
2 tbsp. water
1 tsp. sugar per onion
1/2 tsp. salt per layer
1 tsp. flour
1 c. grated cheese

Grease baking dish with butter. Slice onions 1/4 inch thick. Put 2 tablespoons water in bottom of casserole dish. Put layer of onions, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon flour, 1 teaspoon grated cheese, 1/2 teaspoon salt plus bits of butter. Continue layering of onions. Sprinkle bread crumbs on top. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Allow 1 onion per person.
