RED VELVET CAKE 
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 bottle red food coloring
1 c. buttermilk
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
2 eggs

Mix the above ingredients and add 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 tablespoon vinegar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

ICING:

Mix 2 cups milk, 1/2 cup flour, and 1 teaspoon salt in saucepan. Cook over low heat until thick. Combine 2 cups sugar and 1 cup shortening and beat together. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla.
