DATE NUT BARS 
1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. water

BASE:

1 white cake mix
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 egg

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13 x 9 inch pan. In small saucepan, combine all filling ingredients. Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens. Set aside. In large bowl, combine cake mix and butter until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup crumbs for topping. To remaining crumbs, add 1 egg. Beat until thoroughly mixed. Press dough into prepared pan. Pour date mixture over base. Spread to cover. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over date mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting. 36 bars.
