FRUIT LONG CAKE 
This is at least 50 years old. It is everyone's favorite and can be "adorned" with whipped cream, ice cream, hard sauce or whatever the non-calorie, non-diet conscience can accept.

1/4 c. sugar
2 plus c. fruit slices (apple, peach, or plum)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over fruit. Set aside. Let stand while preparing batter.

1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt (optional)

Sift together, blend well.

2 1/2 tbsp. butter or solid shortening

Cut into flour mixture with pastry blender until coarse.

1 egg, beaten
1/3 c. milk

Combine and stir into flour mixture; blend well. Spread batter on greased oblong baking dish. Arrange fruit over top in rows.

TOPPING:

2 tbsp. soft butter
2 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. sugar

Blend together with pastry blender until crumbly. Drop over fruit. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Serves 10 to 16.
