MOLASSES CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
3 eggs
1 c. molasses
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. boiling water

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, then molasses. Sift flour with cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Put soda into the boiling water. Add flour mixture to creamy mixture. Gradually add soda water, stirring constantly. Beat well. Batter will be thin. Don't add more flour. Pour into greased and floured cake or bread pan. Bake in 350 degree oven about 45 minutes until when the top is pressed on no indentations remain. Turn out on a plate. Cover with damp cloth. Serve hot or cold.
