1 3/4 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
3 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. milk alternately
3 3/4 c. flour

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, salt, vanilla, baking powder and milk alternately with flour. Beat well until batter is smooth and fluffy. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake in 3 x 9 inch pans or in long loaf pans. If chocolate is desired, use 3 heaping tablespoons cocoa. (Use 2 heaping tablespoons less flour.)
