3 c. flour 3/4 tsp. salt 1/3 c. shortening 1 1/4 c. sweet milk (room temperature) 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 pkg. yeast 1 tsp. sugar Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Follow directions on yeast package for dissolving yeast in 1/4 cup milk, slightly warmed. Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt together in bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well and add yeast mixture and remaining milk. Stir quickly with fork just until dough begins to hold together. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead gently, 10-12 strokes. Roll or pat dough 1/2-inch thick. Dip cutter in flour. Cut dough and place on ungreased pan. Let sit 15 minutes. |
