BULK PASTRY MIX | |
1 lb. lard or shortening of your liking 3 tsp. salt 6 c. flour Using pastry blender or electric mixer; cut lard into flour and salt until it resembles coarse meal. Spoon mix into glass jar; cover and store on cupboard shelf. Makes 4 single crusts or 3 double crust pies. Hot to use: (Do not sift.) 1. Spoon dry mix into cup to measure. 2. For 1 crust pie, use 1 1/2 cups mix and 1 1/2 tablespoons cold water. 3. For 2 crust pie, use 2 cups mix and 1/4 cups cold water. 4. Add water and mix as you would any crust. Using a pastry cloth is a nice aid in rolling out crust. |
