SOS (MILITARY STYLE CREAMED
BEEF)

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tsp. Crisco or oil
salt and black pepper, to taste
3 tablespoons flour
2-1/2 cups milk (more if you like it thinner)
6 slices buttered toast or biscuits

Add the teaspoon of oil or Crisco to hot, deep skillet along with the ground beef. As beef begins to lose raw look, add the chopped onion, salt and pepper.

Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until meat is completely cooked. Sprinkle flour over top and stir into meat and onion mixture until totally absorbed.

Slowly add milk, stirring constantly, until thickened. Taste and adjust salt and pepper.

Serve over 2 slices of toast or biscuits; fried egg is a great accompaniment!

I was in the Air Force in the 60's. S.0.S was all the troops favorite. Everyone would complain if it wasn't served for breakfast. It just went with eggs and toast.

Just like granny used to make! I love it, it takes me back to my childhood. No way my wife and kids will eat it, I'm afraid. I also remember the screwed up faces of people in the Dfac who'd never heard of or seen this before. :P

Loved it when in the Air Force. Best Hangover cure I ever found. My wife says yuck but, I'm making it tomorrow for breakfast anyway. Maybe she'll try it anyway???

My father was a cook in the army and made this for us every holiday. I didn't like it as a child but when I was pregnant with my second son i had the craving and called dad for the recipe. I have made it every since for every holiday going on 23 years. Love this stuff and the family won't go without it.

I absolutely loved this recipe! While my dad and family was stationed in the Philippines (1965 - 1971) this became a treat to me.. I even covered the top with black pepper just like my daddy (was 6 - 11 yr old) and all of his navy buddies were amazed that I liked it soooo much! This recipe was heaven sent... Thank you for sharing!!! and GOOOO NAVY!!!

The Marine Corps cook has to throw in his two cents here. We made this stuff everyday in the mess hall, be it at Jacksonville or Okinawa or 29 Palms. I have not made it in forever, but here we go!!! Semper Fi

While I was stationed @ Cherry Point NC. I remember the first time it was offered to me and I asked what it was because it did not look appetizing. Passed it over until nothing left to eat one morning. Decided to give it a try over hashbrowns with two medium cooked eggs. Hooked from that day on. It did need more seasoning.
