CORN PONE 
2 1/2 c. cornmeal
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. bacon drippings
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. cold water
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Pour boiling water over cornmeal in bowl. Add bacon drippings, cool. Then stir in buttermilk and water. Next, add beaten eggs and flour, baking powder and soda and salt. All sifted together first. Beat thoroughly turn into a well-greased hot pan. With batter a half inch deep. Bake in moderate oven 25 minutes. Put in muffin pans to bake. Best when eaten hot with butter and jelly.
