SNICKERDOODLES 
1 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Sift together dry ingredients and set aside. Cream together sugar, shortening and eggs. Add dry ingredients. Form into ball and chill. Shape pieces of dough into balls about the size of small walnuts. Roll balls in a mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned but still soft, about 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen 2" cookies.

NOTE: These cookies will puff up at first but flatten out with crinkled tops.
