CHILI CON CARNE | |
2 tbsp. bacon drippings or oil 1/2 c. chopped onions 1/2 clove garlic (optional) 1 lb. ground beef 2 (8 oz.) cans Hunt tomato sauce 2 c. cooked or canned kidney beans (dark brown) 1/4 c. water or more if liked 1/4 tsp. salt 2 tsp. chili powder Melt shortening; add onion, garlic, and meat. Cook until meat is lightly browned. Cover and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, about 35 minutes or until mixture thickens. A teaspoon of rolled oats may be added to thicken and make richer. More water may be added if desired. Serves 4. |
