HOT CROSS BUNS | |
1 yeast cake (or 1 env. powdered yeast) 1 3/8 c. lukewarm milk 5/8 c. sugar 3 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. cardamom 3/4 c. butter, melted 1/2 c. raisins 1 egg Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with 1 tablespoon sugar. Let stand 10 minutes. Sift flour with rest of sugar. Add cardamom, then stir in lukewarm milk and melted butter. Combine with yeast mixture and work until smooth. Add raisins. Sprinkle dough with a little flour. Cover bowl and let stand in a warm place for one hour. Then knead dough and pull off pieces and shape buns. Place buns on greased pan, 9 x 9 inch, to rise. Brush beaten egg over them. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. |
