SCONES 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. butter
1 egg

Sift the flour, soda, and cream of tartar into bowl; add salt and sugar; rub in the butter. Beat egg and pour into a well in flour mixture, with enough milk to make a very soft dough. Turn onto floured board. Cut into thirds.

Pat each third to 1/2 inch thick round; cut into 6 wedges. Put on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve warm with butter and jam.
