STREUSEL - FILLED COFFEE CAKE 
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. melted butter
1/2 c. chopped nuts

COFFEE CAKE:

1 1/2 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING: Mix sugar, flour and cinnamon. Blend in the melted butter and stir in chopped nuts.

BATTER: Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together. Cut in shortening until mixture is like fine cornmeal. Blend in well-beaten egg mixed with milk and vanilla. Beat just enough to mix well. Pour one-half the batter into well- greased and floured 8 x 8 inch pan. Sprinkle half the streusel mixture; repeat.

Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
