GROUND BEEF COUNTRY PIE
PIE CRUST:

1/2 c. tomato sauce
1 lb. ground hamburger meat
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1/4 c. chopped onions
1/4 c. chopped green peppers
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. salt

PIE FILLING:

1 1/2 c. tomato sauce
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. grated Cheddar cheese
1 1/3 c. cooked rice

Combine all of the ingredients for meat crust in a bowl and mix well with a fork. Then pat the meat mixture gently into the bottom and up the sides of a greased 9-inch pie plate. This is the crust.

Combine the tomato sauce, water, salt, 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese and mix well. Spoon this pie filling into the meat crust. Cover with foil. Bake in a moderate 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. Uncover and top with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Bake uncovered 10 to 15 minutes longer.

I know this is the original recipe, so I don't know why it's not working for me. I can only use 1/2 cup tomato sauce with the rice; 1-1/2 cups is way too much. Also, the pie plate fills up with water and has to be drained after the first bake.

I had a bad experience with this. The filling was like soup. Very disappointing.
