CHOCOLATE CHUNK COOKIES
1/2 c. butter, slightly softened
1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 pkg. (8 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate, cut into large (1/2 inch) chunks
3/4 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Beat butter, sugar, vanilla and egg until light and fluffy. Mix flour with soda and salt; blend into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chunks and nuts. Chill 1 hour. Drop 2 inches apart, using heaping tablespoonful for each, onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes; remove from sheets and cool on racks. Makes 2 dozen 3-inch cookies.

If desired, arrange an additional 4 ounce semi-sweet chocolate on tops of cookies before baking.
