APPLE SQUARES 
BASE:

1 1/2 c. flour
2/3 c. sugar, divided
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter, softened
4 c. sliced, peeled apples
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. cinnamon

TOPPING:

1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/3 c. evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped nuts
1 1/3 c. coconut

Heat oven to 375 degrees F. In small bowl, combine flour, 1/3 cup of the sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press into bottom of ungreased 13 x 9 inch pan. Arrange apple slices over base. Sprinkle with lemon juice, remaining 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon. Bake for 25 minutes. Meanwhile, combine topping ingredients. Sprinkle over partially baked apple mixture. Bake additional 25 to 35 minutes or until golden brown.
