APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
6-10 drops red food coloring

Combine in pan. Bring to a boil; remove. Add 3 tablespoons butter.

In mixing bowl place: 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 2/3 c. shortening 1/2 c. milk

Roll dough and cut in 6 inch squares. Pare and core 6 medium apples. Place 1 apple in each square Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dot with butter. Fold in center. Place 1 inch apart in baking dish. Pour syrup over dumplings. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
