GRANNY'S APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. water

Roll out pastry - a little less than 1/8 inch thick. Cut pastry into 7 inch squares - peel and core apples. Boil together for 3 minutes, 1 cup sugar, 2 cups water, 3 tablespoons butter and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Fill cavities of apples with mixture 1/2 cup sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Dot with 1 tablespoon of butter. Place apples on each square of pastry. Fill core cavity with sugar and cinnamon mixture, overlap moisten and seal. Pour syrup around dumplings. Bake until crust is browned and apples are cooked. Bake 40-45 minutes at 425 degrees.
