HAM AND RICE CASSEROLE 
2/3 c. raw rice
1 qt. milk
1 slice smoked ham (1/2" thick)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. brown sugar

Wash rice and put into casserole. Add milk, salt and pepper. Lay the ham slices in the milk, cutting the edge to prevent curling. Bake, uncovered, at 325 degrees for 1 1/4 hours. Sprinkle the sugar only over the ham about 10 minutes before baking time is up.
