1 c. dates
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. mayonnaise
1 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nutmeats

Pour hot water over dates and soda let stand. Mix remaining ingredients. Then add date mixture. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch or 9 inch square layer cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, then at 300 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
