HERBED BUTTER STICKS
1/4 c. butter
1 1/4 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt, optional
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. thyme
2/3 c. milk

If using self rising flour, omit baking powder and salt. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Measure flour, baking powder, salt, garlic salt, basil and thyme into a bowl. Add milk; stir just until dough forms. Turn onto a well floured cloth covered board. Roll to coat with flour, then knead lightly about 10 times. Pour enough of the melted butter into an 8x8 inch pan to coat bottom and sides. Press dough into the pan. Then dip a sharp knife into melted butter and cut once down the middle of dough. Then turn pan and cut crosswise into one inch "sticks" (usually makes 16 bread sticks). After cutting, dribble remaining butter over top and into grooves. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden. Recipe can easily be doubled for a 9x13 pan or even doubled for thicker sections in an 8x8 pan.
