BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
6 eggs, separated
3 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. lemon extract or vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg yolks. Add flour and milk with soda in it alternately. Beat egg whites stiff. Fold into cake batter. Grease and flour tube pan. Bake 1 hour or longer at 350 degrees.
