PENNY WISE STEAK 
1/2 c. fine bread crumbs
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1/2 tsp. pepper
3/4 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 sm. onion, grated

Combine crumbs and milk. Let stand while meat is being prepared. Combine beef, salt, pepper, onion and crumb mixture. Shape in the form of a steak and rub surface with melted shortening. Place steak on rack under broiler and broil 6 to 10 minutes on one side until well brown, then turn and brown on other side. Remove steak to hot platter and serve with French fries. Serves 6.
