NANA'S BREAD | |
8 c. flour 2 tbsp. lard 1/2 c. water (tepid) 1 tbsp. salt 1 cake yeast Put bread yeast into 1/2 cup tepid water and let stand 5 minutes. Cut lard into dry mixture, make hole in center, add yeast mixture and also enough water to hold mixture together. Knead and mix all together by hand. (If hands get sticky add flour to hands.) Shape into large mound, cover and let rise for 5 hours in warm spot. Cut back and knead, then shape into loaves. Put in greased pans and let rise another 2 hours. Bake at 450 degrees for 30 minutes. Turn oven off, leave bread in for extra 10 minutes. |
