2 cups butter - No substitute
2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
4 1/2 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Mix well. Slowly add flour. Mix and chill. Roll into balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 350°F for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool in pan 2 minutes then place on wire rack. Can be decorated.
