MAMMA'S TRADITIONAL ORANGE CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour

1 2/3 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

3/4 c. milk
2/3 c. Crisco
3 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine 1st 7 ingredients in mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Beat 3 more minutes. Pour into cake pans that are greased and floured. Bake 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees.

Makes 2 thick layers or 3 medium.

FRESH ORANGE CAKE FILLING:

Grate peel of one orange. Peel and grate 3 large or 4 small oranges. Peel and grate 2 large or 3 small apples. Remove seeds.

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook until it thickens. Remove from heat. Spread on layers. Filling will soak into cake.
