FRESH ORANGE TWISTS 
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. orange rind
3/4 c. orange juice
3 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. orange marmalade
1/4 c. chopped almonds

Crumble yeast in warm water; add 1 teaspoon sugar and stir to dissolve. Add egg, shortening, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, orange juice, and rind. Beat well. Add flour gradually; beat thoroughly. Knead 5 minutes. Let rise until double.

Divide dough in half; roll rectangle 15 x 9 inches. Spread with butter and marmalade and nuts. Fold long end to past center and fold other side on top of this. Let rise 1/2 hour. Cut in 1 inch strips and twist. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Ice with powdered sugar icing.
