KOLACHY
1/2 c. water, lukewarm
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
6 to 7 c. flour
2 pkgs. yeast
1 1/4 c. milk
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 tsp. salt

Combine yeast and lukewarm water and 1 teaspoon sugar in a measuring cup and let stand until foamy. Scald milk and add 1/2 cup sugar, shortening, and salt in large bowl. Mix until shortening is melted. Cool to lukewarm. Beat in eggs and 1 cup flour. Add yeast mixture and beat in rest of flour and knead until dough is smooth. Place in greased bowl; cover and let rise. Knead down and let rest for 10 minutes. Roll out dough and cut with biscuit cutter. After rising, make indentation to fill with favorite filling. I use prune and poppy seed filling. This dough is excellent also for cinnamon rolls. Bake in hot oven (450 degrees) until brown.
