HERMITS BARS 
1 1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. molasses
4 1/2 c. flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/4 tsp. cloves (ground)
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1 c. raisins
nuts (optional)

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and molasses. Add dry ingredients and raisins. Form 1-inch diameter rolls. Flatten to 1/4-inch.

Bake at 350°F for 12 minutes on ungreased sheet. Slice into bars while still warm.
