POT ROAST 
butter
Onions
Pepper
Garlic
Roast-eye or chuck
Carrots
Potatoes

Brown 1 stick butter, then take roast and brown in butter on all sides and remove after, then add 2 to 5 large onions, diced, 1 tablespoon pepper, 1/2 teaspoon garlic. Now put roast back in pot and fill pot 1/3 up the roast water. Cook 3 hours; 1/2 hour before it's done, put in carrots, 1 1/2 hour before it's done put in potatoes and the onions. Make a great gravy with out fuss. That is the reason for browning the butter and meat together.
