APPLE SQUARES 
CRUST:

1 c. shortening
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. lemon juice
6 tbsp. ice water

Work like pie crust. Divide dough in half. Bake at 400 degrees.

FILLING:

16 to 18 apples
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Spread 1/2 the crust in jelly roll pan. Place the apple filling on top. Roll out top crust and place over filling crimp edges and stick top crust with fork. Brush top with beaten egg white. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes.

TOPPING:

1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 to 3 tbsp. hot milk

Mix and spread over hot dessert.
