ALASKAN SPRUCE HENS 
2 spruce hens
1 c. flour
Seasonings to taste
Salt, pepper, garlic powder
Paprika
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. shortening
1 c. water
Cut up carrots (3)

Cut up the spruce hens. Shake them in the flour mixture. Brown them in the hot oil. After you've browned the pieces, add some of the water and carrots. Let the meat and carrots simmer for about 20-30 minutes. Add more water as needed. I like to sprinkle just a dab of sugar on the meat and carrots as they're cooking.
