PIE MERINGUE - NO FAIL 
1 tbsp. cornstarch
6 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. water
Salt - a few grains
3 egg whites

Mix and cook first four ingredients until thick and clear, stirring constantly. Set off burner.

Beat egg whites until frothy. Continue beating while pouring cooked mixture into egg whites. Beat 5 minutes on high speed. Cover cooled pie filling. Bake 450 degrees 5 to 7 minutes until browned nicely. I use 425 degrees about 10 minutes.
