WALNUT CHEWIES 
1 egg
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1 c. cut-up walnuts

Beat egg until foamy; beat in sugar and vanilla. Stir in flour, salt and soda. Add walnuts. Spread in well-greased 8-inch square pan; bake until crust has dull finish, 25 to 30 minutes. Bake at 325 degrees. Cut into squares while still warm, about 16 (2 inch) squares.
