BACKYARD DILLS 
30 med. cucumbers
1/2 c. canning salt
1 pt. vinegar
4 cloves garlic
1 1/2 qts. water
6 heads of dill
3 red dried peppers (can use green peppers)
1/2 tsp. alum (powder)
1/2 tsp. pickling spice
2 slices rye bread

Mix all but cucumbers and bread, pour into jars. Cut cucumbers into jars (spears) and put rye bread on top. Set outside in sun 3 to 4 days. Remove rye bread. Cover and store in cool spot.
